Currently the leader in US earnings across all divisions, RS Jewel Crown pulled a 15-1 upset under jockey Jose Alvarez in Friday's $30,000 Texas Yellow Rose (G3) at Sam Houston Race Park.
The race for 4 and five year old mares going seven furlongs attracted eight entries that included several nominees for the upcoming Darley Awards. RS Jewel Crown – nominated for Darley 3-Year-Old Filly in 2022 – is bred and owned by Andre and trainer Nicole Ruggeri.
RB Blair Hope finished second and TM Purncess third. Final time for the Yellow Rose was 1:33.73.
The following race, Diamond Gem AA continued his undefeated career last year as a three year old when he stole the $30,000 Texas Stallion Stakes (G3) on Friday at Sam Houston Race Park with a dominant 5 1/2 length win under jockey Anardis Rodriguez for trainer Jerenesto Torrez and breeders/owners Joe & Betty Gillis of Allegro Arabians.
In fact, the big chestnut colt's final time of 1:32.37 was just .40 seconds off the track record set by fellow Allegro Arabians star, Easter Man, in 2019.
RB Money Maker finished second and WMA Country Star third.
Congratulations to each of the winning connections!
