RB Mary Lylah Named 2024 Horse Of The Year

Writer: Greg ThompsonGreg Thompson

The 2024 Darley Award winner RB Mary Lylah had a tremendous campaign that saw the 4yr old daughter of Al Mourtajez come into 2024 on a four-win streak.  In February, the Jerenesto Torrez-trainee held off Carlos Padilla trained Scorched for a one-length victory in the Darley Arabian Sprint Stakes(G2) with Anardis Rodriguez in the irons.

The filly showed her versatility in her next two starts, as she handled the grass like a seasoned pro to come home a winner on the turf in both the Texas Six-Shooter Stakes(Listed), as well as the Texas Yellow Rose Stakes to sweep all three Arabian stakes events at the 2024 TB meet at Sam Houston Race Park.

In the summer of 2024 in Selma, Texas at Sam Houston Race Park,  Rodriguez guided her home a winner for owner Rosebrook Farms LLC in the Texas Arabian Derby(G2).

Going to the inaugural running of the $105,000 Texas Arabian Stallion Classic Stakes at Lone Star Park, the Dianne K. Waldron bred filly was attempting to cap off an undefeated season as she went postward against stablemates RB Malexis, and 2023 Horse Of The Year Diamond Gem AA.  In her only defeat for 2024,  RB Mary Lylah would have to settle for a second place finish in the 1-mile dirt event.

Her championship winning season saw her earn $132,950 in five starts in 2024.  She was victorious in 4 stakes races in a total of 5 starts in 2024.  She has been since sold to interests in the middle east.
