The open division of the TX Stallion Stakes (G3) concluded the evening's races, bringing together yet another all-star cast of entries, including two Darley Horses of the Year and the undefeated three year old, Diamond Gem AA. It was the young Diamond Gem AA that took control of the race at the half-mile pole. But his veteran barn mate, Quick Sand AA, turned on his lethal turn of foot in the stretch and it became a battle of the two Allegro Arabians homebreds to the wire. In the end, Diamond Gem AA won by a head, bringing his perfect freshman record to 3-for-3 under jockey Anardis Rodriguez for trainer Jerenesto Torrez and proud owners, Joe & Betty Gillis of Allegro Arabians. The Gillis' have enjoyed an absolutely outstanding 2022 season, with an incredible 40% win percentage with their homebreds this year. Quick Sand AA was second, and RB Grand Slam was third.
